Is the practice taking new patients?

Yes. At the time of writing, Oldbury Health Centre is accepting registrations. If you are in the catchment area, you can start the process online or in person.

I rang at 8am and could not get through — what do I do?

This is a genuine problem at most busy GP practices. Try the online booking system for non-urgent appointments — it completely sidesteps the phone queue. If the issue is urgent and you cannot get through, 111 can help assess your situation and advise on next steps.

Question 3

Why can't reception book my blood test?

Accepted Answer

Because the phlebotomist who comes in is not employed by Oldbury Health Centre. They are a separate NHS service. You need to call 0121 507 6104 directly. The surgery reception cannot access that booking system.

Question 4

How do I see my test results?

Accepted Answer

Set up your NHS App or the Sandwell and West Birmingham Health App. Once it is linked to the practice, results appear in your account when they are available and a clinician has reviewed them. Much easier than calling.

Can I get an evening or weekend appointment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Extended access runs weekday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm through the Oldbury and Langley PCN. Ring the surgery to book one.

Question 6

Do I need a fit note for a week off work?

Accepted Answer

No. For absences of seven calendar days or less, you self-certify. A GP fit note is only needed once you have been off for more than a week. Your employer can ask you for one at that point.
